Gonsala (Gonzie) Cardenas, 90, of Coldwater, passed away Wednesday, September 22, 2021 at Drew’s Place of Coldwater.
A memorial mass will be held on Wednesday, September 29, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Charles Borromeo Church in Coldwater with Rev. Fr. Dan Hyman officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, September 28, 2021 from 5:30 p.m.- 7:30 p.m. with the Rosary to begin at 7:30 p.m. at Dutcher Funeral Home in Coldwater.
Gonzie was born January 10, 1931 in New Braunfels, Texas to Jose & Maria (Garcia) Galnares. Gonzie married the love of her life Reymundo (Ray) Cardenas on January 3, 1953 in Adrian, MI. He preceded her in death on August 7, 2010.
Gonzie and Ray moved to Coldwater in 1956. She raised her daughters while selling real estate for Dean’s PC and also helping Ray with his insurance business. Gonzie was a dedicated wife and mother who loved her church, her friends, her country and especially her family.
Gonzie is survived by her loving daughters Virginia (John) Watkins of Coldwater, Valentina (Michael) Baker of Castle Rock, CO; her grandchildren Anna (Terry) Holroyd of Coldwater, Alexander (Rachel) Watkins of Canton, Teresa (Clay Gysin) Baker of Manitou Springs, CO and Jessica (Joshua) Leininger of Westminster, CO. She is also survived by her precious great grandchildren Natalie and Olivia Holroyd, Owen and Evelyn Watkins, Kylah, Kinsley and Kaedyn Leininger. Also surviving are her sisters Maria (Wayne) Berridge of Adrian, Simona (Eduardo) RozoBueno of Adrian and her brother John (Artis) Galnares of Traverse City, sister-in-law Rita Perez of Adrian and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, her daughter Christina, sisters Flavia and Bentura and her brothers Jose, Jr., Alejandro and Abraham and her special friend Barbara Harvey.
