COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Branch County Administrator Bud Norman told the Board of Commissioners during their work session on Wednesday that a wage study which they had requested would take nearly four months to complete and the earliest it can take place is 2022.
Norman said he reached out to a company that does a majority of wage studies for municipalities in Michigan.
The Michigan Association of Counties tried to do a study this year….
Commissioner Tim Stoll said during a lengthy discussion they need reliable information if they are going to act on wages.
Norman was told to research the matter further. No action was scheduled as the agenda item was for information only.
Meanwhile, Commissioners voted to bring forward to next Thursday’s regular meeting a wage plan proposed by Norman that would bring in new employees at a higher pay level than the current Tier Two starting pay. After five years, the pay would be the same amount as before.
Norman said the plan was a recruiting tool which was “budget neutral”. It was put together following negotiations with department heads and elected officials.
The plan is part of an effort by county officials to retain employees and to make job openings more financially attractive.
