COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Branch County Board of Commissioners formally approved a two year plan on Thursday which is designed to help recruit potential employees.
The recommendation from Administrator Bud Norman was to allow for the employer to be able to offer potential employees the option of starting at the two year level with no step increases until the fifth year or the employee can adhere to the standard step scale.
With either option the employee would still be eligible for cost of living increases each year.
At the end of the fifth year, the employee choosing the 2 year starting wage would be given a one-time payment equal to approximately 3.5 percent of their starting wage to make up the difference in overall wages for the 5 year period.
At the five year point the hourly wage for either option would be the same.
The plan went into effect on Friday and will run through the end of the year at which time it will be re-evaluated if necessary.
