BATTLE CREEK, MI (WNWN/WTVB) – Members of the Bakery, Confectionery, Tobacco Workers and Grain Millers International Union went on strike against Kellogg’s in Battle Creek at midnight on Tuesday morning after their master contract which had been in place since 2015 expired.
The union representing Kellogg employees voted to go on strike Monday night.
They stated on the union’s web site, “The goal of the BCTGM negotiating committee is to obtain a fair contract that provides a living wage and good benefits for our brother’s and sister’s families by bargaining in good faith with the Kellogg Company’s leadership.”
WOOD-TV reports four other Kellogg’s locations in Pennsylvania, Tennessee and Nebraska are also expected to strike.
Kellogg’s issued a statement saying the company “is committed to negotiating a fair and competitive contract that reflects the contributions of our employees and helps set our cereal business up for long-term success. Our current proposals not only maintain industry-leading pay and benefits for employees, but offer significant increases in wages, benefits and retirement.”
This strike comes just weeks after an announcement by Kellogg’s that they would be cutting over 200 jobs in Battle Creek over the next two years.
