BRANCH COUNTY, MI (WTVB) – Nearly 1,500 Consumers Energy customers in Branch County lost their power Friday as lightning and drenching rains went through Branch County.
The weather apparently caused the outages but no official reason was given by Consumer’s Energy.
Union City Village Manager Chris Mathis says a lightning strike took out electricity for some village customers on the south side of Union City including Washington Street, Mary Street and some areas of Fenton Street.
According to the outage page on the Consumers Energy web site, the power outages north of Coldwater were reported just after 9:30 a.m..
Another 2,200 customers lost power in Calhoun County.
The outages were mostly along I-69 from north of Tekonsha south to Jonesville Road and in the Sherwood and Athens areas.
