DEARBORN, MI (WTVB) – You’re digging deeper into your wallet to pay for gas these days and there maybe no relief in sight.
Triple-A Michigan says average gas prices in Michigan jumped a whopping 12 cents last week, a new high for 2021.
Michigan drivers are now paying an average of $3.33 per gallon for regular unleaded. This price is 14 cents more than a month ago and $1.20 more than this time last year.
Prices around Coldwater and at other locations in Branch County spiked to $3.39 a gallon last week but the web site www.gasbuddy.com reports gas was selling for between $3.09 and $3.19 a gallon in Quincy.
As Paul Harvey used to say, you can run but you can’t hide. Triple-A says the national average price for regular is up to $3.27.4 a gallon on Monday as prices have been going up without a break since September 28th. Only eight states have statewide averages below three dollars a gallon.
Rising crude oil prices continue to be the cause, according to AAA, and if crude prices continue to trade near $80 a barrel, motorists will not see much relief. The slight increase in gas demand has also contributed to the rise in the national average.
