COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater High School boys soccer team opened post season play Wednesday night with a 4-3 home win over Parma Western in the opening round of the MHSAA Division Two districts.
The Panthers got on the scoreboard first just 4:17 into the game, before the Cardinals were able to tie the game 10 minutes later on a goal from Brayden Boyd, assisted by Joseph Closson.
Coldwater took the lead with 14:53 to play in the first half on the first of two goals by Amine Mohammed, assisted by Mukhtar Abdulla. Mohammed scored again with 4:54 to play in the opening half, assisted by Naj Norman.
Parma Western cut the lead to 3-2 with 28:34 to play in the second half, but Coldwater opened up a two goal margin again with 12:21 to play on the first goal of the season from sophomore Nabil Saeed, putting in the rebound of a shot from Amine Mohammed.
The Panthers cut the margin to 4-3 with 9:36 to play, but the two teams remained scoreless the rest of the way for the Coldwater win.
The victory puts the Cardinals into the district semi finals at home next Tuesday at 7:15 p.m. against the winner of tonight’s Vicksburg-Jackson Northwest quarterfinal being played at Vicksburg.
The other semi final Tuesday at 5:00 p.m. will feature Marshall vs Sturgis, after the Trojans beat Harper Creek 3-2 in their quarterfinal game.
Trevor Hensinger had five saves in goal, as Coldwater outshot Parma Western 15-11.
The Cardinals are now 12-6-2 on the season.
