BRANCH COUNTY, MI (WTVB) – It just won’t stop raining in Branch County and the soggy weather has literally bogged down the harvesting of crops.
Friday’s wet weather means rain has now been recorded in Branch County on seven out of the last nine days, on 10 out of the last 14 days and on 14 out of the last 25 days.
As of 9:00 a.m., the Michigan State University Extension Service weather station at the Bloom Dairy Farm west of Coldwater had measured 33-hundredths of an inch of rain for Friday which brought October’s total at that location up to 3.79 inches.
In a span of 22 days between September 22 and Friday morning, the rain gauge at that location has measured a whopping 7.68 inches of rain.
Standing water in some fields is preventing farmers from operating heavy machinery. They are also dealing with tar spots and downed corn from all of the rain.
Drier weather is expected to move in this weekend and last until at least the middle part of next week.
