COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Village of Union City will be out of the Michigan South Central Power Agency on June 1, 2022.
The M.S.C.P.A. Board of Directors approved a separation agreement on Friday after several issues had to be ironed out in recent months.
The original deadline for Union City to leave the agency was June 30, 2021.
Agency General Manager Pam Sullivan ran down the check list of items before the board vote.
The separation agreement still needs to be approved by the member communities boards and councils.
Upon completion of this transaction, Union City will be completely divested of their participation in both the M.S.C.P.A. and American Municipal Power.
Union City expressed a desire to leave the agency almost two years ago after it was felt the agency was not acting in the best interest of the smaller communities. Officials in Union City and Hillsdale thought at that time the agency spent to much money on the purchase and renovation of a building at 168 South Division in Coldwater. The controversy eventually led to the departure of then agency General Manager Paul Beckhusen in September of 2019.
