QUINCY, MI (WTVB) – The Village of Quincy is seeking over $162,000 in a State of Michigan Disaster Contingency Fund Grant to help pay for damages caused by the major storm that hit Branch County on August 12.
A resolution passed by the Village Council last week during a special meeting stated that the village sustained severe losses of major proportions brought on by the straight line wind event.
The storm knocked down trees and power lines on every street in the village. It also damaged equipment including the water treatment plant generator and the mobile generator.
The resolution went on to say that as a result of the disaster, public damage and expenditures were extraordinary and an unreasonably great financial burden on the village total $162,654.68.
The resolution requests Governor Whitmer authorize a grant to the village from the state Disaster Contingency Fund under a 1976 state law.
