Darlene M. Ditton, 87, of Quincy, passed away Tuesday October 19, 2021 at her home surrounded by her loving family.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday October 27, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Charles Borromeo Church in Coldwater with Rev. Fr. Dan Hyman officiating. Interment will take place at Greenlawn Cemetery in Ft. Wayne, IN.
Visitation will be held Tuesday October 26, 2021 from 4-7:00 p.m. with the rosary to begin at 7:00 p.m. at Dutcher Funeral Home in Coldwater.
Darlene was born May 8, 1934 in Ft. Wayne, IN to Getus & Mable (Bryan) Snyder. She graduated from Central High School in Ft. Wayne in 1952. After graduation, she worked as a secretary for Magnavox.
Following their move to Quincy MI in 1969, Darlene worked for Quincy Products, retiring after nearly 30 years of service. She also worked as a part-time receptionist for Maple Lawn Medical Care Facility, retiring at the young age of 80.
Darlene was a member of St. Charles Borromeo Church. She was an avid sports fan and especially loved the Chicago Cubs and Notre Dame. She played softball and baseball and in her youth, was considered as a player for the Fort Wayne Daisies women’s professional baseball team. She spent many days playing at Packard Park in Ft. Wayne, her father as her coach.
Her greatest love, however, was for her family. She was always available with her love and support and was an awesome single mother to her seven children. She never missed a school conference, sporting event, dance recital or any other special event. She was the most popular guest at her grandchildren’s and great-grandchildren’s VIP day and was their biggest fan at their numerous athletic events.
Darlene is survived by her children Darlene (John) Starr of Coldwater, Robin (John) Sennish of Coldwater, Lori (Bob) Loveberry of Coldwater, Leslie (Gary) Sunday of Quincy, Terrie (Matt) Godde of Battle Creek, Brian (Sue) Ditton of Quincy, Dan (Kari) O’Brien of Caledonia, her brother, Albert (Andy Gebhard) Snyder of Ft. Wayne, IN, 16 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren and many dear cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, 2 infant sons Robert Dean, Robert “Bobby,” and her great-grandson, Maddox.
