COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Calhoun County has passed a resolution to leave the seven county Southwest Michigan Solid Waste Consortium and they are recommending that the group be dissolved.
The consortium was formed 25 years ago. It consists of Branch, Calhoun, Allegan, Berrien, Cass, St. Joseph and Van Buren Counties.
Branch County Administrator Bud Norman told the Board of Commissioners during their work session on Thursday the consortium was put together as a way to secure grants.
Norman said Calhoun County has expressed several concerns.
Branch County is represented on the Consortium Board by County Commissioner Tim Stoll while Samantha Buterbaugh is an advisory member. Stoll recommended that they attend the next board meeting and see what the rest of the group wants to do.
