BRANCH COUNTY, MI (WTVB) – The Michigan D.N.R. says hunters in Branch County bagged 2,244 deer during the 2024 firearms season which concluded this past Saturday.
That number is down from the last couple of years. Hunters in Branch County bagged a total of 2,375 deer in 2023.
Over 3,600 deer were harvested by hunters in Branch County in 2022.
Of those deer killed this year, 1,335 were antlered.
The total number of deer killed around Michigan was about 133,000 which continued a downward trend over the last five years.
The D.N.R. says over 137,000 deer were taken last year, just under 155,000 in 2022, about 197,000 in 2021 and over 198,000 in 2020.

Farm owners who have turned their once scenic farmland into fenced in and inefficient solar farm junkyards don’t care about deer. Nor the fact that there is no longer habitat or travel routes. Land owners are selling off land to build storage barns and other developments. The deer have nowhere to go but into suburbs and cities. They will be more and more killed on the highways. It is all about MONEY NOW and no thought for wildlife or future generations later.
