COLDWATER, MI (WTVB AM/FM) – After battling twice during the regular season, the Coldwater High School boys team hosted Marshall for a back and forth match in the Division 2 District Finals Thursday night, with the Redhawks coming away with a 4-2 title win.
The Cardinals scored first with 13:02 to play in the first half with a goal from Ahmed Omar. Marshall would tie the score just 36 seconds later, then take the lead with 9:23 to play in the half.
Coldwater tied the score at 2-2 with 33:02 to play in the game on a goal from Mukhtar Abdulla, assisted by Amine Mohammed.
The two teams remained scoreless for the next 25 minutes, before Marshall broke through with a goal with 8:19 to play for a 3-2 lead. They finished off the scoring with an insurance goal with 7:07 to play.
The Redhawks came into the game as the 6th ranked team in the final Michigan High School Soccer Coaches Association Division 2 poll, and they improved their record to 18-2-1 with the win.
Trevor Hensinger made three saves in goal as Coldwater closed out the season at 13-7-2. Each team had 13 shots in the game.
Marshall will now face St. Joseph in the Regional semifinals Tuesday at Otsego High School.
