Roland L. Cockrell, 96, of Coldwater, passed away Tuesday, October 19, 2021 at his home.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, October 30, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. at Dutcher Funeral Home in Coldwater with Pastor Mark Case from California Community Church officiating.
The family will receive friends, prior to the service, beginning at 11:00 a.m. at Dutcher Funeral Home.
Interment will take place at Ft. Custer National Cemetery.
Roland was born September 2, 1925 in Coldwater, MI to Harmie & Hazel (Brown) Cockrell. He served in the US Navy and was a veteran of WWII.
Roland married Sharon (Warsop) Moore on February 26, 1982 in Coldwater.
Mr. Cockrell worked in construction and masonry for many years. He traveled with the union and helped to build many different places including the Coldwater State Home and the Coldwater Hospital. Roland then worked many years with Michigan Livestock, retiring in 1987. After his retirement he butchered animals for many local farmers.
Roland was a past member of UCT, Coldwater Moose, Elks, and Optimist clubs; the NRA and the Quincy American Legion. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and loved animals. Roland was proud to be elected Quincy’s Tip-Up Mayor in 1988.
Roland is survived by his wife Sharon, his daughter Kim (Chuck) Wilbur of Quincy, his step-sons Tony (Patricia) Moore, Robert (Ellen) Moore all of Coldwater and many grand, great-grand and great, great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his former wife Josephine Cockrell and his brothers Robert and Loren Cockrell.
