PINCKNEY, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater Cardinals travelled to Pinckney in a rematch of a 2019 Division 3 Pre-District contest won by Coldwater in blowout fashion. The result this time was much different, as the Pirates held off the Cardinals to take a 35-34 Senior Night win.
Coldwater held a 396-336 advantage in total yardage, but couldn’t completely overcome three second-quarter fumbles, two of which led to Pinckney scores. The Pirates led 7-6 after the first quarter and took a 28-20 lead into the halftime break. Pinckney led 35-28 after three, but the Cardinals cut the lead to one with 3:56 left. They opted to try for a two-point conversion, but Cam Torres was stopped about a foot shy of the goal line.
Torres finished with 32 carries for 286 yards and 4 touchdowns, while Brock Thornton had 5 carries for 52 yards and Cole Barker added 9 carries for 42 yards and a score. Zach Diotte led the defense with 8 tackles and an interception.
Coldwater finished the season with a 3-6 record.
