COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The City of Coldwater has filed an Application for Disaster Assistance as over $144,000 is being sought from the State of Michigan due to the storm of August 11 and 12.
Branch County was declared a disaster area which allows the City as well as other municipalities in Branch County to seek reimbursement from the state.
A resolution was approved by the City Council Monday night requesting the State to authorize the reimbursement and to name City Finance Director Tom Eldridge as the agent who is authorized to act for and on behalf of the municipality.
City Manager Keith Baker pointed out the money is not guaranteed.
It was reported to the City Council on Monday that the storm cost reimbursement being sought includes over $106,000 for mutual aid expenditures and utility employee overtime costs within the City’s utility funds and over $37,000 of reimbursement for mutual aid expenditures and public works employee overtime costs within the City’s General Fund.
Baker says nonexempt City employees worked about 700 hours of overtime between August 11 and 15.
