COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Branch County Board of Commissioners formally approved additional funding for the 911 communications project on Tuesday.
Commissioners approved an additional $62,250 following a change order request from A.C.D. Telecom who is working as the communications consultant for the county during work on the project.
The 911 Communications Board recommended approval of the same request but it was not to exceed $93,750.
The project includes five communications towers. After testing was finished recently, it was felt that an additional tower is not needed at this time. If this should change before the project is complete, the tower would be covered in the amount approved by the 911 Board.
Commissioners Jon Houtz and Tim Stoll indicated to County Administrator Bud Norman during last week’s work session they felt more comfortable with the option for the lower figure.
Norman said last week the system should be ready after the first of the year.
The $9.3 million project is designed to improve signals and communications for police, firefighters and rescue crews. Branch County voters approved a phone surcharge in November of 2020 to help fund the project.
