PORTAGE, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater boys finished fourth on Saturday at the M.H.S.A.A. Division Two Cross Country Regional meet in Portage and came within just four points of qualifying as a team for the State Finals next weekend at Michigan International Speedway.
Mason was first with 91 points followed by Harper Creek with 95 points. Grand Rapids South Christian got the third and final transfer spot to the state meet with 147 points followed by Coldwater with 151.
Despite the heartbreaking near miss, Coldwater will send two runners to M.I.S. as individuals.
John Aerts was third with a time of 16:20.75. Myron Lafty was ninth with a time of 16:45.61.
In the girls regional, Coldwater was 11th out of 17 teams. Marshall, Mason and Grand Rapids South Christian were the top three teams.
Coldwater’s top finisher was Legend Szafranski who was 27th.
