STEUBEN COUNTY, IN (WTVB) – A Montgomery man suffered what were described as critical and potentially life-threatening injuries Friday night when his motorcycle hit a deer in Steuben County just south of the Michigan-Indiana border. The Indiana State Police are investigating the crash which was reported at about 9:15 p.m. on North Fremont Road just south of County Road 800 North. According to a press statement issued by the State Police, a preliminary investigation indicates that 44-year-od Johnathan Annis was heading south on his 1997 Harley Davison in the 7800 block of North Fremont Road when a deer ran into his path. Annis was not able to avoid the deer and collided with it.
The collision caused Annis to lose control and become separated from the motorcycle. Annis was airlifted from the scene and flown to Parkview North Hospital in Ft. Wayne with critical injuries.
Indiana State Police said in a news release that Annis was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
