UNION CITY, MI (WTVB) – The new substation for the Village of Union City was turned on Wednesday afternoon and is now on line.
The entire backbone of the village’s electrical system has been upgraded and rebuilt following a power failure in July.
The village posted a video of the substation going on line as Lead Lineman Damen Shaffer threw the town off of temporary generation and onto the new system. He then engaged each of the Village’s circuits back into service.
Also assisting in the video were Matt Rice from Motor Shop Electric and Glenn Keates from CTC Engineering.
This is the first switchgear in almost 100 years and the first substation the Village has built in its history.
A previous substation was adopted from Consumers Energy in 1980.
Village officials say they appreciate everybody’s understanding and patience during the project.
