Virginia M. Pope, 91, of Coldwater, passed away Monday, November 15, 2021, at the Laurels of Coldwater. She was born March 29, 1930, in Allen to Olen and Fern (Burlew) Welch. She married George Pope on December 22, 1961, and he preceded her in death.
Virginia began her working career at Shaw’s Shoes in Coldwater where she was employed for 20 years. In 1974, she became the owner and operator of House of Flavors, also in Coldwater. She drove school bus for Coldwater Schools and in retirement operated the Teepee Lunch Wagon. And lastly, she enjoyed helping with her family business, Welch’s Auto Parts in Allen. In her spare time, she enjoyed crocheting, bowling, and cooking large meals for family get-togethers.
Virginia is survived by stepchildren, Calvin (Dot) Pope, Frances (Don) High; grandchildren, Ricky Pope, Farrah Pope, Heather Mellon, Julia Novak, Jennifer Pope and Ben Pope; siblings, Velma Ward, Virgil Thatcher and Versal Welch; special nieces and nephews, Sandra Sharpley, Terah Reichhart and Trevor, Ryan and Aaron Gray; along with many great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, George; stepson, Dean Pope; siblings, Vera Taylor, Vivian DeVolder, Victoria Welch, Violet Sharen, Viola Wickham, Victor Welch, Veda Lothamer, Verlin Welch and Vernon Welch; and special niece, Patricia Wiley.
Funeral services for Virginia Pope will be held Friday, November 19, 2021, at 11:00 AM at the Eagle Funeral Home-George White Chapel in Quincy with Pastor Mike Roberts of Bronson Church of Christ officiating. Interment will follow at South Allen Cemetery. Visitation will be held Thursday from 6-8 PM at the funeral home.
