COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Michigan High School Athletic Association has invited current high school swim team participants who hold a current U.S. Paralympic Swimming classification to participate in an exhibition event at the M.H.S.A.A. Division 2 State swim meet this weekend at Oakland University.
Brianna Barle, is the first Coldwater High School para-athlete to participate in the exposition race at the M.H.S.A.A. Girls State D-2 swimming and diving competition. This exhibition race is to raise awareness to Paralympic swimming and to collect information on participants throughout the state. Barle is a Freshman Swimmer at Coldwater High School. She started participating in Paralympic swimming events when she was 11. She was born with Larsen syndrome, causing dislocations of joints and skeletal malformation. She is thankful for this opportunity to raise awareness for Paralympic swimming and hopes that one day, high schools in the state of Michigan will have classified Paralympic events in multiple sports.
Coldwater swimming coach Aaron Ulrich says, “Bri has been a very hard worker and a great addition to the Cardinals. Swim is an amazing sport in that it let’s a diverse group of athletes compete as an individual and still have a team sport atmosphere of support. We are very happy that Bri has been given this opportunity to represent the Lady Cards in this manner. Hopefully, with enough involvement this will turn in to something much greater.”
