COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A Bronson man was arraigned Wednesday in Branch County District Court on three charges after he allegedly choked a woman in his South Matteson Street apartment.
35-year-old Kristopher Lee Franks is facing charges of unlawful imprisonment, assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder and being in possession of a dangerous weapon.
According to Branch County court documents, the alleged incident took place on Tuesday after Franks approached the woman and asked if they could talk. The alleged victim said she had a difficult time breathing while he allegedly had his hand on her throat. She managed to get free and fled from the apartment following a struggle in which she was elbowed in the nose.
Bronson Police and the Michigan State Police later went to Franks apartment. Court documents state a pair of brass knuckles were found on a table in plain sight.
Bond was set at $50,000 and a not guilty plea was entered on behalf of the defendant during Wednesday’s arraignment.
Franks was told not to have any contact with the alleged should he post bond.
A probable cause hearing was scheduled for next Wednesday with a preliminary exam set for November 30.
