COLDWATER, MI (WTVB)- While more than 12% of Michigan kids age 5 to 11 have their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, Branch County’s rate is well below the statewide average.
In West Michigan, about 15%, or 28,266, of kids in the age group have received their first dose of Pfizer’s pediatric vaccine, according to Michigan’s COVID-19 dashboard. The rate in Kalamazoo County is the highest in West Michigan at 20.3%
In southern Michigan counties, such as Branch, Cass, and St. Joseph, just over 600 kids in this younger age group have got the vaccine, that’s less than 5%.
The Branch-Hillsdale-St. Joseph Community Health Agency has an upcoming vaccine clinic scheduled for Wednesday, December 1 to provide pediatric vaccinations, as well as first, second, and booster doses for adults. Appointments can be made at www.bhsj.org/scheduling.
