COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – State health officials say the number of hospitalized adults with confirmed COVID-19 cases in Michigan has reached a new pandemic high as Michigan tries to deal with this latest surge in infections.
The total of 4,185 cases surpassed the previous record of 4,158, which was set seven months ago during the state’s third wave.
Only Minnesota had a higher seven-day case rate than Michigan as of Sunday, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Statistics released from the State of Michigan show 83 percent of available hospital beds in the state are occupied as of Monday thanks to the recent surge of cases which has been driven by the Delta variant.
According to the latest statistics posted by the state, ProMedica Coldwater Regional Hospital had 17 COVID-19 patients on Monday with five of them in the intensive care unit. The hospital is reported to be at 90 percent capacity.
ProMedica’s hospital in Monroe was at 94 percent capacity with 30 COVID-19 patients and six in I.C.U. while ProMedica’s CV Hickman Hospital in Adrian was at 100 percent capacity with 14 COVID-19 patients and five in intensive care.
Hillsdale Hospital was at 55 percent capacity with 11 COVID patients and four in I.C.U..
Oaklawn Hospital in Marshall was at 85 percent capacity with 22 patients admitted for COVID-19 and 11 in intensive care.
Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo was at 98 percent capacity with 86 COVID-19 patients and 11 in I.C.U..
Bronson Battle Creek had a capacity of 83 percent with 47 COVID-19 patients including 12 in intensive casre.
The latest statistics posted on the Branch-Hillsdale-St. Joseph Community Health Agency’s web site showed the number of Branch County cases since the pandemic began in March of 2020 was up to 6,907. The death toll from the virus in Branch County now stands at 116.
