EAST LANSING, MI (WTVB) – Branch County’s unemployment rate in October stood at four-point-three percent according to data released on Tuesday by the Michigan Department of Technology, Management & Budget.
The report showed Branch County had the 22nd lowest unemployment rate among Michigan’s 83 counties.
The state also reported that not seasonally adjusted jobless rates declined in all 17 of Michigan’s major labor market areas during October.
As for October unemployment rates in neighboring counties, St. Joseph County was at four-point-two percent, Hillsdale County stood at four-point-nine percent while Calhoun County was at six percent.
Michigan’s unemployment rate in October was four-point-seven percent.
But the numbers showed not as many people were in the labor force compared to October of 2020. Calhoun County’s civilian labor force has gone down by almost 2,200 workers in the last year.
The shrinking labor force was noted by Bureau of Labor Market Information and Strategic Initiatives Associate Director Wayne Rourke who said, “Jobless rates declined in all major Michigan labor markets in October, although labor force levels were generally down over the month. Payroll job levels advanced in most metro areas in October.”
Unemployment rates ranged from two-point-eight percent in Livingston County to seven-point-nine percent in Roscommon County.
