BRANCH COUNTY, MI (WTVB) – Bronson’s boys basketball team opened their season on Tuesday night with a 71-33 victory at Battle Creek St. Philip.
The Vikings took control with a 24-9 second quarter which put them ahead 30-17 at the half. They then outscored St. Phil’s in the third quarter 26-12 to seal the victory.
Reagan Mayer led the Vikings with 28 points and five rebounds. Tanner Norton had 17 points which included four buckets from beyond the arc.
Quincy had to go to double overtime on their home court in their season opener to defeat Waldron 51-45. Ashtyn Morris led the Orioles with 17 points and four rebounds while Ryder Schmachtenberger had 13 points, three rebounds and two assists.
Six other Orioles got into the score book. Sam Sawyer had five points, two assists and two steals; Brandon Miner had five points, two assists and two steals; Tae’Sean Bodley and Riley Miner chipped in three points apiece, while Landen Kelley and Ethan Burritt added two points each.
In girls basketball, Bronson romped to a 66-28 home court victory over Springport in their Big 8 Conference opener. The game was never in doubt as the Vikings built leads of 19-5 after the first quarter and 38-14 at halftime. They eventually stretched the lead to 40 points in the fourth quarter which led to the use of a running clock for the balance of the game.
According to the M.H.S.A.A. web site, the Union City’s girls basketball game scheduled for Tuesday night at Kalamazoo Loy Norrix was cancelled.
