Virgel Grace Thatcher, 89, of Coldwater, passed away Wednesday, December 8, 2021 at her home.
A graveside service will be held Saturday, December 11, 2021 at 1:00 PM at South Allen Cemetery with Pastor Shayne Looper from Lockwood Community Church officiating.
Arrangements are being cared for by Dutcher Funeral Home.
Virgel was born April 11, 1932 in Hillsdale, MI to Olin & Fern (Burlew) Welch. She married Frederick J. Thatcher on January 11, 1949 in Angola, IN. He preceded her in death in 1987.
Mrs. Thatcher was a dedicated wife, mother and homemaker. She also worked for many years at both Snyder’s and Maytag Laundromats. Virgel was an avid Detroit Tigers fan and enjoyed playing cards with her Euchre club. She enjoyed the outdoors; doing yard work and raking leaves, but her greatest joy came from spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Virgel is survived by her son James (Sue Miller) Thatcher of Sterling, CO, her sister Velma Ward of Coldwater, her brother Versal “Butch” Welch of Allen, 6 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and 2 great, great grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her son Franklin Thatcher, her daughter Cheryl Esterline, 3 brothers and 7 sisters.
