LANSING, MI (WTVB) – Branch County will be part of the Fifth Congressional District after eight of the 13-member Michigan Independent Redistricting Commission approved new state House, Senate, and U.S. House district maps on Tuesday.
Current Seventh District Republican Congressman Tim Walberg will remain as the district’s Congressional Representative if he should win re-election next November.
Walberg has already announced he will run for another term.
The new district would include all of the border counties from Lake Michigan to Lake Erie along with parts of Calhoun and Kalamazoo Counties and all of Jackson County.
Michigan will lose one seat in Congress following the 2020 census.
One district puts West Michigan Republican incumbents Fred Upton and Bill Huizenga together.
