QUINCY, MI (WTVB) – The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and damage from the major storms that went through Branch County last August has forced organizers of the annual Quincy Chain of Lakes Tip-Up Festival to cancel the event for a second straight year.
The committee voted several weeks ago to cancel the event which is held every February on Tip Up Island.
Danielle Badders from the event committee says the storm knocked down numerous large cottonwood trees that still have not been cleared.
The downed trees, some measuring five feet in diameter, would have limited parking for the day long event.
In addition, some of trees fell on the pavilion and damages to the building still have not been fixed.
She said the committee was “super sad” to cancel the event adding it was not an easy decision.
A raffle has been tentatively scheduled for June and the committee is planning to bring the event back in 2023.
