MARSHALL, MI (WTVB) – The Marshall Redhawks jumped out to a 12-2 advantage and never looked back on Friday night as they defeated the Coldwater Cardinals 64-55 in a highly anticipated Interstate 8 boys basketball game.
Marshall had leads of 17-12 after the first period and 34-25 at the intermission on their home court.
Coldwater fought back to get to within one point at 49-48 in the fourth but the Red Hawks used accurate foul shooting to pull away down the stretch.
Marshall improved to 6-0 overall and 3-0 in the Interstate 8. Josh Pugh scored a game-high 19 points for the Red Hawks. Nate Tucker added 16 points.
Coldwater drops to 3-1 overall and 2-1 in the Interstate 8.
Ethan Crabtree, Lu Lebron and Brandon Downs each scored 11 points to pace the Cardinals. Evan Sloan had 10 points. Crabtree grabbed eight rebounds. Crabtree and Down both recorded four assists and four steals.

Marshall won the freshman game 59-40. Coldwater won the JV game 47-25. Tyson Roby led the J.V. Cards with 19 points while Evan Porter added 13 points.
