COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A Coldwater man was given a time already served sentence in Branch County Circuit Court on Monday after he entered guilty pleas to three charges in connection with a confrontation last June with members of the Michigan State Police.
49-year-old Brett Donley has spent 75 days in the Branch County Jail after he entered guilty pleas to two counts of resisting and obstructing police as well as to a charge of domestic violence.
A charge of assault by strangulation as well as an habitual offender fourth offense notice were dismissed by prosecutors in exchange for the guilty pleas.
Donley was arrested during a State Police investigation into a reported domestic incident.
According to court documents, the suspect refused to cooperate with police as they tried to execute a search warrant and eventually assumed a fighting posture.
Police had to deploy a taser but Donley managed to take out one of the barbs and continued to disobey verbal commands.
Donley eventually followed commands and was taken into custody.
