READING, MI (WTVB) – Fourth-ranked Union City scored two more Big Eight Conference wrestling victories on Wednesday night in Reading as they defeated a pair of perennial powers.
The Chargers defeated Springport 55-17 and Reading 64-17 to improve their conference record to 3-0.
The highlight of the night for the Chargers came from former State Champion Brayton Mears who picked up his 100th career victory.
Mears is now wrestling at 145 pounds. As a freshman, he won the 103 pound title at the 2019 M.H.S.A.A. Individual Finals in Detroit.
Quincy lost a pair of Big 8 Conference matches in the same quad meet as they were beaten by Reading 48-25 and Springport 37-24.
Quincy’s Davin George, Jacob Reif and Hamilton Spieth all went undefeated for the night. Reif scored a pair of impressive wins as he beat two top-ten ranked opponents.
