Jacqueline Faye Starnes, 88, of Union City, formerly of Warren, passed away Monday, January 10, 2022.
A celebration of life will be held later this year at Faith Baptist Church in Warren.
Arrangements are being handled by Lighthouse Funeral and Cremation in Union City.
Jackie was born October 1, 1933 in Ozark, Michigan to John and Celeste (King) Burgess. She grew up in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula and graduated from Rudyard High School in 1952.
Immediately following graduation, Jackie and a girlfriend relocated to the Detroit area for better employment opportunities. Jackie did bookkeeping and later became co-owner of Star Vending Co.
On June 21, 1958, she married James Hudson Starnes in Royal Oak. They made their home in Warren, where Jackie resided for 59 years until moving to Union City in 2017.
Faith was Jackie’s foundation over the years, seeing her through many difficult times. In 1970 she joined Faith Baptist Church, where she was very active in many church ministries, including Awana and Vacation Bible School. She also enjoyed being a greeter at the church welcome center. Additionally, she had served as an election official in the Warren community since 1981. Jackie was a strong and independent person who was equally witty and feisty. Her determination and follow-through were unshakeable.
She is survived by her children, James (Kelly) Starnes of Greenville, SC and Diane (Bob) Rome of Union City; grandchildren, James (Kendall) Starnes of Raleigh, NC, Jillian (James) Brooks of Decatur, GA, Zach (Kelly) Starnes of Milwaukee, WI, Julia Lauren Starnes of Greenville, SC and Jacqueline (Michael) Morency of Detroit; great-grandchildren Molson Morency, Emerson Brooks and Samson Starnes; and sisters-in-law, Janis Swanton of Bloomington, IL and Ruth Starnes of Gainesville, FL.
Jackie was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, James Starnes; her parents, her siblings, Ralph (Marion) Burgess, Elaine (Ray) Lovegrove, Raymond (Evelyn) Burgess, Dorothy (Earl) Bradley and Joyce (Albert) Hatch; and many close friends.
