COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – For the second straight year, the COVID-19 pandemic has forced organizers of the annual Branch County Farmer’s Day at the Branch Area Careers Center to cancel the event which is put on the Branch County Agri-Business Council, Michigan State University Extension and the Branch Area Careers Center.
The 2022 event was scheduled to be held on February 21 which is President’s Day.
Michigan State University Extension’s Dave Thompson said it was difficult decision for the Ag Council.
He says the Ag Council is encouraging members to take part in the Michigan Ag Ideas virtual programs that will be broadcast during the month of March.
Before the 2021 cancellation, Farmer’s Day had been held for 53 years and has been a staple for the agriculture community in Branch County.
The event brings farmers, agribusiness vendors and Michigan State University Extension agriculture educators and specialists together for a day of networking, hearing about new agricultural products and services, conversations over a light lunch, and educational opportunities on a wide range of topics.
In light of the decision to cancel Farmers Day, the M.S.U. Extension field crops team in southwest Michigan has chosen to offer an alternative educational session on February 21 to farmers and agribusiness representatives.
The field crops session that would have been offered at Farmers Day will be offered instead from 8:00 a.m. to 12 noon at the Dearth Community Center.
Due to the generous financial support of several local agribusinesses, the program is being offered at no cost to attendees.
Online registration will be available soon or you can call the Branch County M.S.U. Extension office at (517) 279-4311 extension 0 for assistance.
