COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A 31-11 third quarter helped to turn a 24-21 Coldwater halftime lead into a comfortable 66-42 win over Jackson Northwest Friday night at the Coach Floyd Eby Gymnasium.
Brandon Downs led the way with four 3-point baskets in the third quarter, seven total, and a 3-for-3 performance at the free throw line for a game-high 24 points. He also had 2 rebounds and 6 assists. Ethan Crabtree 12 points, 9 boards, 6 assists, and a steal.
The win, coupled with Harper Creek’s 59-41 win against previously unbeaten Pennfield and Marshall’s 60-32 win at Lumen Christi, has created a four-way tie atop the Interstate 8 boys basketball standings. The Cardinals, Panthers, Redhawks, and Beavers are all 4-1 in the league. Coldwater improved to 5-1 overall. They play at Pennfield next Tuesday and host Harper Creek next Friday.
Northwest, who was led by Ian Weller’s 11 points, dropped to 4-4 overall, 1-4 in the Interstate 8.
