COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater Lady Cardinals gymnastics team scored a ‘come from behind’ win at home on Wednesday night during the 11th annual Jillian Crist Memorial meet.
The Cardinals rallied to beat the Parma Western Panthers in front of a packed home crowd, moving to 4-1 in the conference.
The gymnasts turned in their second highest team score of the season at 133.125 points, while the Western Panthers tallied 128.2 points.
Coldwater dedicates one of their competitions each year to former teammate Jillian Crist. The team collects non-perishable food items and donates them to the food pantry in her honor each year. The pregame ceremony honored the Crist family and in turn they named this year‘s co-captain Katie Kimble as recipient of the Miss Con”Jilly”iality award for her upbeat personality and team spirit. The Crist family also gifted each team member with goodie bags.
Coldwater’s McKenna Hantz tied for second on the vault as the Cardinals struggled and fell behind Parma.
They rallied on the uneven bars as Charlotte Calhoun, Layla Schoch, and Randi Dudek took the top three spots.
Coldwater kept up their momentum on the balance beam as the sophomore duo of Gabby Schoch and Calhoun posted scores of 8.8 to finish in a first place tie.
Coldwater secured the win over the Panthers in the floor exercise as Layla Schoch earned top honors with a score of 8.575 points. Hantz was second followed by Randi Dudek in third and Avery Boyce in fourth.
In the all-around competition, Coldwater claimed the top four places led by senior co-captain Layla Schoch with a total 32.875 points. Hantz was second and Boyce was third.
Coldwater travels to Kenowa Hills on Saturday for an invitational. The gymnasts will have their final home meet of the season next Wednesday when they take on Tecumseh and Monroe for senior night.
