COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – One of two suspects who is facing numerous charges after a pair of vehicles were stolen and a police pursuit took place in Coldwater has had his cases bound over to Branch County Circuit Court.
35-year-old Jason Work has been charged with two counts of driving away a motor vehicle, third degree fleeing from a police office and assaulting/resisting/obstructing a police officer.
His cases were bound over following a preliminary exam on Wednesday in Branch County District Court.
Work is scheduled to appear for a Circuit Court arraignment on February 14.
A preliminary exam in District Court for co-defendant 20-year-old Lilyan Blankenship is scheduled for February 16.
She is facing two counts of driving away of a motor vehicle, possession of methamphetamine, second degree retail fraud and assaulting/resisting/obstructing a police officer.
According to Branch County court documents, the two are accused of stealing vehicles on January 3 and 7 from people they knew.
Blankenship is also accused of taking $556 worth of items from a liquor store on the west side of Coldwater. A Coldwater Police Officer saw the suspect vehicle which was reported to be stolen and tried to stop it but the vehicle accelerated at a high rate of speed down U.S. 12.
The vehicle made many turns onto residential streets. The Coldwater police officer terminated the pursuit on two occasions for safety concerns.
The vehicle was later spotted on Hull Street where it crashed near Wright Street. The two suspects managed to get away but Work and Blankenship were arrested the following day.
