BRANCH COUNTY, MI (WTVB) – The National Weather Service issued a Winter Storm Warning on Monday afternoon ahead of a strong winter storm that is expected to affect the weather in Branch County over two days. The warning is in effect from 1 am Wednesday morning through 7 pm Thursday night.
During a multi media briefing on Tuesday morning, forecasters said we can expect heavy snow and dangerous travel with total snow accumulations in excess of 10 inches in portions of northern Indiana and southwest Michigan before the storm is over.
Two rounds of bad weather are expected over a nearly 48 hour period.
As of Tuesday morning, the heavier amounts of snow were expected to fall south of Branch County.
Travel is expected to become very difficult to impossible. Blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. Rain will change to snow from northwest to southeast early Wednesday morning. Forecasters say this will be a long duration snow event, with periods of moderate to heavy snow and reduced visibilities.
If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food, and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency.
