COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Branch County Commissioners decided during Thursday’s work session to take formal action during next Tuesday’s regular meeting on a resolution that would be in favor of an Animal Control and Protection Ordinance for the county’s townships.
The ordinance covers 23 pages and Branch County Prosecutor Zach Stempien says it was put together by a committee of concerned stakeholders in regards to care, control and breeding of dogs and animals.
Stempien said they were looking for support from the Commissioners for townships to pass a uniformed animal ordinance.
He says it’s focused on three main items.
Stempien said Ingham County was told by the Attorney General’s office that County Commissioners can not take action on a county wide ordinance but he feels the Board can express support on a township ordinance that would be consistent.
