BRANCH COUNTYY, MI (WTVB) – Branch County school administrators have given students a third straight snow day thanks to the winter storm on Wednesday which dumped nearly ten inches of snow of the area.
Several school administrators said they decided to throw in the sponge to hold classes on Friday because the roads were still in poor shape following the storm.
Most Kalamazoo and Calhoun County school districts are returning to classes after Wednesday’s storm but all districts in St. Joseph County are closed again Friday.
John Lindsey, managing director for the St. Joseph County Road Commission, said he only had 25 plow truck drivers available to clear the roads. That meant only one shift running in the county.
The state education department allows schools six days a year to close for emergencies like a winter storm. Schools can petition the state for three additional days if they exceed the allotted six.
