PORTAGE, MI (WTVB) – Coldwater utilized its full court defensive pressure to open up a 19-4 advantage after the opening quarter and cruised to a 54-38 win at Portage Northern.
The Cardinals were led by a pair of freshman as Elli Anderson poured in 16 points and added four rebounds while Elli Foley scored 15 points to go along with 9 steals.
Anna DeMeester and Jaelah Sloan both added six points.
Coldwater improves to 10-5 overall and will travel to Marshall on Thursday looking to secure a tie for second place in the conference with the host Redhawks.
Also in girls basketball, Bronson lost a non-conference game at home to Lenawee Christian 55-45.
Bronson had the early edge as they got out to a 15-9 lead after the first quarter. Lenawee Christian used a 15-7 second quarter to take a 24-22 halftime lead. Lenawee Christian gradually built their lead in the second half. They led 37-31 after three quarters and outscored Bronson in the fourth quarter 18-14.
The loss dropped Bronson’s record to 9-7.
