BRANCH COUNTY, MI (WTVB) – The Union City Chargers used a hot first quarter from Kyle Johnson to defeat Branch County rival Quincy 43-30 in a Big 8 Conference boys basketball game on Tuesday night at McNett Fieldhouse.
The Chargers were playing their first game in 12 days on Tuesday night thanks to last week’s weather postponements.
Union City led 22-13 at halftime and were up by as many as 12 points in the third quarter.
Quincy got it down to a five point game but could not secure defensive rebounds on two straight possessions, which led to Union City going on a five point spurt and pushing the lead back up to 10.
Johnson scored 14 points in the first quarter as he finished with a game-high 20 points.
Quincy was led by Ashtyn Morris with 12 points. Sam Sawyer added 10 points.
Union City is now 4-4 in the Big 8 and 7-5 overall. Quincy drops to 1-8 in the conference and 3-10 overall.
In another Big 8 Conference boys basketball game, Bronson lost at Jonesville 62-48. The Vikings have lost four out of five to drop to 3-5 in the Big 8 and 5-8 overall.
