COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Branch County Commissioners did not take formal action during Tuesday’s regular meeting on a resolution that would be in favor of an Animal Control and Protection Ordinance for the county’s townships.
Apparently members of a committee that helped put the ordinance together want to tweak it further after hearing complaints from some citizens.
The ordinance covers 23 pages and Branch County Prosecutor Zach Stempien told Commissioners during their work session Thursday that it was put together in regards to care, control and breeding of dogs and animals.
Stempien said they were looking for support from the Commissioners for townships to pass a uniformed animal ordinance.
Jennifer Wortz of Quincy Township, who is planning to run for County Commissioner in the newly created Fifth District, said during public comments there were parts of the ordinance that were an overreach and that the ordinance would be difficult to enforce.
It’s not known when it might come back before the Commissioners.
Commissioners also did not take formal action on a request to update the pre-employment medical exam requirement in the personnel policy after agreeing to bring it forward during last Thursday’s work session. There was no mention if the action will be rescheduled.
The updated requirement would allow an employer to ask for additional physician information if a applicant has a positive drug test before employment begins. It comes after there was an issue with a applicant testing positive due to a medical condition.
