BRONSON, MI (WTVB) – The newest members of the Bronson High School Hall of Fame will be formally inducted Friday night before the varsity boys basketball game between Bronson and Union City.
This year’s inductees are Judy and Ken Carpenter, Linda Hyska, Karen A. Smith, Jean LaClair and Ferrell Mayes
The Carpenters served the community in many ways over the years. Ken served as Bronson Township Supervisor and Assessor and volunteered on the Bronson Fire Department. Judy has served on the board of directors and as treasurer for the Bronson Food Pantry.
Hyska participated in basketball, volleyball, and track. At one time she held records in both the 2 mile run and 110 yard hurdles. She has taken her love for sports and used it in coaching.
Smith has worked for the City of Bronson for over 38 years. She has spent countless hours working on community and school projects and events.
LaClair came to Bronson in the 1999-2000 school year as a full-time athletic director. A few years later she added the roles of Assistant Principal and Dean of Students at Bronson High School. LaClair has coached Bronson Volleyball teams to 1,292 victories which includes 13 league championships along with, 16 district, 8 regional and 5 State Championships.
Mayes moved to Bronson nearly 25 years ago. He has provided local media with countless in-game action photos and has been a fixture at many state tournament events. Mayes has also photographed Sno-ball and Prom dances, school plays, and musicals, along with graduation ceremonies and Hall of Fame Induction ceremonies.
