COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Just over $12,000 was raised Saturday during the 12th annual Stick It For A Cure Gymnastics Invitational hosted by the Coldwater Cardinal gymnastics team.
The money raised by the gymnastics team will benefit of the local oncology center at ProMedica Coldwater Regional Hospital.
Overall, the Stick It For A Cure competition has raised nearly $120,000 over the last dozen years.
Cancer survivor and Coldwater High School Principal Bill Milnes was the keynote speaker at the event, sharing with the gymnasts and the crowd his personal gratitude for the fundraising efforts and support the gymnastics event provides.
After his speech, the gymnasts presented gifts to cancer patients and survivors in attendance.
“We had three new teams at our meet this year and it is always very touching to hear the reaction of coaches and parents to our invite. Many people – both new to the event and returning from year to year – express to me how amazing it is to see that what we do is so much more than just a gymnastics meet,” noted Coldwater Coach Kim Nichols. “I think the Farmington coach said it best to me when he said ‘If you don’t have a smile on your face today, then you just don’t understand the spirit of this competition’. I am personally grateful for the help I receive from my assistant coach Janet Kahler and the Stick It Committee members. Without them, we simply would not be able to run the event so well.”
