COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A suspect was arraigned Monday afternoon in Branch County District Court after the Coldwater Golf Course was broken into Sunday morning.
35 year old William Sowards was formally charged with breaking and entering and ordered held on a $100,000 bond. A not guilty plea was entered.
A probable cause hearing was scheduled for February 24 with a preliminary exam set for March 3.
Sowards is also facing three domestic violence charges and a count of assault and battery in connection with alleged incidents with two women that took place between December 2020 and October 2021. Two of the domestic violence cases are set to go to a jury trial June 15, 2022 after plea offerings were turned down.
The breaking and entering alarm from the golf course was reported at 5:18 a.m. Sunday.
According to court documents, Sowards was apprehended at the Biggby Coffee store near Western Avenue and U.S. 12 after State Police Troopers obtained video footage of the breaking and entering which gave them a description of a man entering the Golf Course building.
The business owner said a cash register containing $360 in cash was stolen from the golf course.
