BRONSON, MI (WTVB) – The Bronson City Council approved the purchase of a new police vehicle Monday night at a cost of just under $43,300.
The Council originally approved the purchase order for a 2022 Ford Explorer Police Interceptor last October. But City Manager Brandon Mersman said in his report the vehicle has not yet been built and they did not have a date for when this might happen.
The Police Department was informed recently of a very similar vehicle on the lot at Cole Ford in Coldwater that has a few more features than what was originally ordered.
The original purchase price was just over $40,400. The extra key fobs were not included in the original purchase order.
Mayor Larry McConn said the six year old vehicle was becoming more unreliable and he felt now was the time to purchase the new vehicle.
Police Chief Stephen Johnson said the 2016 Tahoe they currently have was in need of repair.
The Council also approved a quote of over $11,000 from First Response Fleet to equip the new vehicle. As much equipment as possible will be transferred from the Tahoe. The work would include setting up the in car laptop, lights and in car camera system.
