BRANCH COUNTY, MI (WTVB) – The National Weather Service issued a Flood Advisory for Branch County Thursday morning as heavy rain overnight and the melting snow resulted in minor flooding in low lying and poor drainage areas. Water was also reported over roadways but as of mid morning there were no road closings in Branch County for high water.
There was a large amount of water which surprised some drivers during the pre-dawn darkness on Old 27 near the Skate Ranch. The parking lot at City Glass was also flooded but the main building was dry.
The Flood Advisory was issued for the morning hours. The flooding was expected to continue until the early afternoon as rain will taper off and change to a mix of ice and snow Thursday afternoon.
The Michigan State University Extension Service weather station at the Bloom Dairy Farm west of Coldwater measured 84-hundredths of an inch of between 11:00 p.m. Wednesday night and 9:00 a.m. Thursday morning.
Trained weather spotters reported between one and one-and-a-half inches of rain and snow melt in the advisory area.
